Do I need to use Vimeo or YouTube to live stream?
It depends on what you are looking for from your live stream. If you want something reliable, then Vimeo and YouTube are up there as some of the best options.
However, the live streaming player is only part of the puzzle. You also need to understand if you are planning to embed your stream somewhere else, such as a dedicated event platform. In this case, you will want to see if they can embed the player on their platform or if they use their own live streaming player that you can use.
This is where test, test, test comes into play. You need to take some time to understand how the tools work together.
Should I live stream in 720p or 1080p?
When it comes to resolution we always opt for 1080p to provide the most clarity for attendees. In some cases, usually depending on internet speed, you may opt for 720p to increase accessibility for your audience.
Most viewers will have fast enough internet to support 1080p but know that 720p is always an option if you find people are having a bad experience.
It's also worth noting that some event platforms only support 720p live streaming, so make sure to check with your provider AND test, test, test.
Can I live stream to multiple places at once?
Yes you can. It's called multistreaming or multi-destination live streaming.
Just remember that when you send your live streams to multiple locations on the web, you are splitting your audience across platforms. So the conversations will be siloed between those individual audiences.
You will also need to monitor the streams in several locations at once which can be challenging.
While it seems like a great idea to have your content show up live in multiple places, make sure that there is a good reason for doing so.
Do I need an event platform to host my live stream player?
Not at all. Many virtual events that we run for clients take place on the players themselves with an integrated registration page to track attendee data.
It's actually a great way to keep costs down for your event.
